Sandals Resorts International Claims Top Prizes at the 2020 World Travel Awards
Sandals International accepts four awards in top categories, proving they are the brand to beat in the Caribbean
BAHAMAS- Jeremy Mutton, General Manager of Sandals Emerald Bay in Exuma, Bahamas, accepted four awards during the World Travel Awards Ceremony on April 20. Mutton accepted the awards, which took place at his resort Sandals Emerald Bay, on behalf of Chairman and Founder Gordon “Butch” Stewart and the entire Sandals family.
The Sandals brand scooped up some of the top titles that night including Leading Caribbean Hotel Brand. Sandals International beat out Hilton, Hyatt, Marriott, the Ritz-Carlton, and the Westin brands to win this top honor. Sandals has won this award 15 years straight, starting in 2005.
The World Travel Awards (WTA) started in 1993, and each year WTA representatives travel the world and hold individual galas to recognize and thank the hard workers of the region’s hospitality industry. Santiago, Chile and Nairobi, Kenya were among those countries that hosted on behalf of their region this year. A final celebratory gala marks the end of the tour where winners are announced, which took place this year at the Sandals Emerald Bay. These awards are attended by industry leaders and key decision makers within the hospitality world.
Sandals won several other prizes this year, including Leading All Inclusive Family Resort for Beaches Turks and Caicos, Leading Honeymoon Resort for the Sandals St. Lucian, Leading Luxury All-Inclusive Resort for Sandals Emerald Bay, and Most Romantic Resort given to Sandals Grande Antigua.
Mutton, the General Manager of Sandals Emerald Bay, accepted the awards for all the Sandals Resorts and said, “It feel great, certainly not just for me but for the 11,000 members of staff that work across all the Sandals Resorts. It certainly is a testament to their hard work and their dedication, and I am very humbled to pick the awards up for them.”
